“One Hour and Forty Five Minutes”
A Rewarding Journey of Patience
As I wandered with purpose behind the majestic clock of the Musee d’Orsay I clearly envisioned the photograph I sought to create. Provided with the luxury of time that day I began to wait for the swarm of excited tourists to thin. After one hour and forty five minutes of standing in one place hoping for that decisive moment a mesmerizing calm began to fill room. All the enthusiastic sightseers became unusually serene and polite. Small groups and individuals approached the clock one at a time. Each waited for their assigned photographer to do their artistic duty then scurried away letting the next eager model have their turn.
When the vintage backdrop cleared once again a lovely, slightly reluctant young women approached from the left. Unfolding before me and the crowd of fascinated onlookers was the very image I had created in my mind’s eye just one hundred and five minutes earlier. A decisive moment and prevailing patience formed a delightful partnership that day in Paris. Emerging from that timely alliance was the aptly name photograph “One Hour and Forty Five Minutes.” Which now has become a significant piece of my photographic narrative, a steady reminder of that fulfilling passage and more importantly the value of its message.
